Governor Mimiko's Security Aide Reportedly Shot Dead After Gun Battle With Armed Robbers

Suspected armed robbers in Akure, the Ondo state capital have killed one of the security aides attached to the former of the state Olusegun Mimiko.

The security aide, DSP Idowu Oyewole, was reportedly killed in a shootout with gunmen on wednesday at Sango area of the state capital along Akure-Owo Road, where the he lived.

Our correspondents learnt that the gunmen were on operation in the neighbouring houses at about 8pm on Wednesday when Idowu went out with his service pistol to engage them in the process of which he was shot and later died of the injuries.

Sources told our reporter that after the incident the victim was not seen until his lifeless body was discovered by the residents Thursday morning on the ground.

He was said to have died as a result of the gunshot injuries he sustained during the shootout with the robbers.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer Femi Joseph who confirmed the killing, revealed that the command had begun investigation into the incident.
