Police in Adamawa State have arrested a woman who impersonated a popular Hausa film actress, Hadiza Gabon, soliciting for money from men.

The woman (names withheld) who lives in Yola metropolis had registered a face book account with the name and picture of the Kannywood actress, chatting with men and sending them indecent pictures in exchange for money.
When Daily Trust visited Wuro Hausa Police Division in Yola where the suspect was detained, the woman in her 30's admitted to impersonating the celebrity to extort over N200,000 from men she chatted with on Facebook.
The actress, Hadiza Gabon who flew from Kano to Yola to give her testimony to the police told our correspondent  that she had been alerted by some of her fans who were shocked when the impostor requested for money  from them on Facebook after claiming the identity of the actress.
Gabon said she had personally chatted with the woman, appealing to her to desist from the dishonourable acts that could smear the image of the actress in the eyes of the public but the woman remained adamant, insisting that she was the authentic Gabon.
"I begged her on Facebook to please stop dragging my name in the mud but she told me I was the one impersonating her, that she was the real Hadiza Gabon; so I told her that the Almighty Allah would vindicate me in the long run. Now here she is in the police cell", Gabon said.
She noted that there were dozens of fake Facebook accounts bearing her name, calling on the public to be wary of fraudsters.
When the police brought out the suspect from her cell to face Gabon, she knelt before the actress and begged for her forgiveness, saying her excessive love for the actress led to the impersonation.
The suspect wept profusely as she held Gabon in a remorseful mood, moving the actress to shed tears as she accepted her apology.
Following pleas from the suspect and her husband, Gabon demanded that the suspect surrender her SIM card and Facebook password with which she lured her victims to the police.
The DPO, Ibrahim Kambari who admonished the suspect to learn her lesson and live a new life said the police arrested her following a tip off from a good citizen and a fan of Gabon who took his time to help track the suspect
