In Benue, IFAD Predicts Bumper Rice Harvest

The International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, said, yesterday, that Benue State small holder farmers, under its Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, will harvest over 10,000 metric tonnes of high quality rice this month. Benue State Project Coordinator, IFAD-VCDP, Mr. Emmanuel Igbaukum, who made this known in his 2016 progress report in Makurdi, said the feat was achieved through Good Agronomy Practice, GAP.
Igbaukum said: “In the course of the farming year, we constructed 34.5km of rural roads and developed over 2,300 hectares of farmland in the five pilot local government areas of Benue State, with each hectare expected to yield between four and five metric tonnes of rice.”
Igbaukum added that cassava production in the state has already gained momentum.
