PHOTO: Senator Akpabio Embarrasses Gov. Emmanuel Udom

Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom state reportedly embarrassed his successor, Udom Emmanuel, at a state function held in Uyo last Monday.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the incident, seen as a breach of protocol, happened at the Ibom Hall grounds, IBB Avenue, Uyo, during a state-sponsored religious ceremony – the Akwa Ibom State Annual Solemn Assembly. Akpabio showed up late for the event and intentionally strolled in with his entourage just as Udom was taking the bible reading.

The crowd kept on hailing Mr. Akpabio. Governor Emmanuel was forced to pause for some minutes until Mr. Akpabio was seated, before he could continue with the Bible reading.

Franklyn Isong, a newspaper publisher and public affairs commentator in Uyo in a Facebook post after the event wrote, “This act of former Governor Akpabio to always attempt to belittle his successor at public functions has been taken too far to be ignored by sane people.''

“If he cannot sit at state function(s) before the arrival of Governor Emmanuel, he has the option of joining the governor’s convoy or stay back from such function when the governor is seated.

Other major political actors in the state also condemned Akpabio's moved.
